TechnoAlpin Rebuilds Mount Hutt Snowmaking Pumping Station
Forming part of a stunning mountain range, Mt Hutt is situated almost 2100 m above sea level in the Southern Alps in New Zealand, on the South Island. The mountain is on the east side of the range, close to the Pacific Ocean. The nearest big city, Christchurch, is about an hour away. The Mt Hutt ski resort is operated by NZSki Ltd which also runs The Remarkables and Coronet Peak ski resorts in New Zealand.
The Mt Hutt ski resort has four lifts and various slopes with a difference in altitude of almost 700 m. The sweeping slopes are best known for their beautiful panoramic views. Mt Hutt prides itself on being the first ski resort in the southern hemisphere to open its slopes to visitors every year. The ski resort is amply equipped with some 100 snow guns supplied by TechnoAlpin.
Sometimes the ski resort staff have to work in difficult weather conditions. The snow conditions are always top-notch, however, which is why the ski resort is so popular. Mt Hutt was therefore able to run a new project with TechnoAlpin this year during the maintenance period.
The original plan was to replace a pump but, following in-depth consultation, the ski resort decided to rebuild the entire pumping station. The two existing vertical pumping systems were sold, providing the funds for three horizontal pumps for the pumping station. These enable more efficient and more effective snowmaking in the ski resort. The pumping station which was installed is a new design which runs entirely automatically with the ATASSplus program.
