Zermatt Reports Increased Occupancy
The occupancy of beds in the Zermatt - Matterhorn destination increased slightly in the 2019 financial year compared to the previous year. This positive development is due to the fact that many guests traveled to the destination in the seasons as well.
In the 2019 financial year, the Zermatt - Matterhorn destination recorded further growth in overnight stays: In total, there were over 2.3 million overnight stays (2,309,976) in the period from November 2018 to October 2019, which corresponds to an increase of around 4 percent compared to the previous year. This positive development is primarily due to year-round occupancy of the available beds. The destination has come a bit closer to the goal of being a year-round destination. "Zermatt is enjoying increasing popularity during the increasingly important off-seasons," says Paul-Marc Julen, President of Zermatt Tourism. The occupancy of the available beds is 63.6 percent, which corresponds to an increase of around 3.5 percent compared to the previous year. Is particularly gratifying that the occupancy of the available beds is almost the same in both summer and winter. Around two thirds of the overnight stays are in the hotel industry.
