Zeal Optics Celebrates 50th Earth Day With “Shades For Seas”
To celebrate the 50th anniversary of Earth Day, Zeal Optics is kicking off its “Shades For Seas” campaign to remove 50 pounds of plastic (22.7 kilograms) from our planet’s oceans for every pair of sunglasses, goggles or accessory lenses sold globally on zealoptics.com on April 22, 2020.
This initiative ties into Zeal Optics’ mission of diminishing the amount of petroleum-based plastic that finds its way into the waste stream. Zeal produces all of its sunglasses using plant-based materials and is focused on reducing its environmental footprint by using castor-oil in its Ellume Polarized lenses and Z-Resin frames.
“As we head into spring, this campaign is designed to inspire people to think about the impacts of their purchases and get them to vote with their dollars,” says Zeal Optics Director of Marketing Mike Lewis. “We’re incredibly excited with the response we’ve gotten to this program from our partners and how they’re getting behind it and can’t wait to see how it’s received amongst our community.”
Zeal Optics will be independently contributing to Plastic Bank to prevent ocean-bound plastic from entering our oceans through its unique social enterprise model. Founded in 2013 in Canada, Plastic Bank works with locals around the world to collect plastics and empower communities. Plastic Bank has recovered over 10 million kilograms of plastic in Haiti, Brazil, the Philippines and Indonesia.
Shades For Seas will continue in June, when Zeal Optics will work with all of its retail partners to remove 5 pounds (2.3 kg) for every pair of Zeals sold globally through the entire month.
Zeal Optics is a proud member of the 1% for the Planet family and donates 1% of its gross sales to environmental organizations. Last year, Zeal Optics partnered with its retailers and consumers to plant nearly 17,000 trees around the world through programs like its holiday “Buy A Zeal, Plant A Tree” campaign, which is also designed to connect customers to Zeal’s mission.
You can follow the “Shades For Seas” campaign on social media with the hashtag #ShadesForSeas, where Zeal Optics will share other ways you can reduce your environmental footprint, along with updates on how much plastic our community has helped remove from our world’s oceans.
