World Record Attempt: 100 Different Ski Lifts In One Day

New world record attempt is planned on 11th February 2025 at the Sälen ski resorts in Sweden: Oliver Kern from Skiresort.info wants to set a new record for the most lift rides in one day.

Oliver Kern attracted attention with his first world records back in 2007. On 8th December 2007, he skied 52 different ski lifts in one day in the SkiWelt Wilder Kaiser-Brixental. In February 2008, this record was beaten with 60 different ski lifts. This left Oliver Kern with no choice and he had to go full throttle again on 27th January 2009 and skied 70 different ski lifts in one day. This world record would now stand in the books for 16 years, until 2025, when Oliver Kern had to beat another record of at least 81 ski lifts.

But the goal is over 100 lifts! Will he make it? On 11th February 2025 it can succeed...

There are ski resorts not only in the Alps, but also in Scandinavia, where it is possible to set a world record. In the Sälen ski region, Skistar operates 104 ski lifts in the Lindvallen, Högfjellet, Tandådalen and Hundfjället ski areas. In addition to state-of-the-art 8-seater and 6-seater chairlifts, the ski area also offers many lifts for families and children. On 11th February 2025, Oliver Kern is planning this record and wants to ski at least 81 different ski lifts in one day in Sweden and thus set his 7th world record. But 81 ski lifts are not enough for him and he wants to break the 100 mark.

The leading Scandinavian ski resort operator SkiStar, which last winter offered six months of skiing in the ski resorts of Åre, Sälen, Vemdalen, Trysil and Hemsedal, offers ideal opportunities for this world record. Scandinavian Mountain Airport (SCR) offers an ideal journey, as it is only 10 minutes away from the ski slopes in Sälen.

A record-breaking 2024/25 season without exception

The passionate skier and extreme athlete will use the impressive lift facilities at SkiStar Sälen to achieve this extraordinary feat. By the end of the 2024/25 season, Oliver Kern will also have skied in 1000 different ski resorts in 35 countries on 6 continents. He will also set a record with over 8400 ski lifts and cable cars travelled. In the course of his career, he founded the world's largest test portal for ski resorts Skiresort.info in 1998, created over 500 test reports in 18 criteria and collected over 25,000 ski passes.

World record at a glance:

• Date of the record: 11th February 2025
• Location: Stöten and SkiStar Sälen, Sweden
• Number of ski lift rides: at least 81 – target 100
• Duration: from 7.30 am to approx. 6 pm
• Lifts used: chairlifts, t-bars and platter lifts

An outstanding endeavour

Oliver Kern will start his record attempt in Stöten with early morning skiing. Then it's off to Hundfjället, Tandådalen, Högfjället and Lindvallen. In hopefully ideal weather conditions, he will let the skis glow. If time permits, he will make a stop at the only ski-in McDonald's in Lindvallen. Thanks to meticulous planning and the comprehensive support of the SkiStar team, he will complete at least 81 different skilift rides and perhaps even break the 100 mark, setting a new benchmark in the skiing world. The last ride on the 8-seater chairlift Gustav Express from Doppelmayr is planned for around 6 pm.
