World Cup Season Start For Aerials And Alpine Snowboard This Week

The aerials and alpine snowboard FIS World Cup tours are the last ones among the FIS events to get their 2017/18 season underway.

The 2017/18 FIS Freestyle Skiing aerials World Cup will see the first two competitions of the season take flight on 16th and 17th December at the future Beijing 2022 Olympic Winter Games in Secret Garden, China. 

Including Secret Garden, there will be four venues and six total competitions on this season’s aerials tour, with the World Cup ending in late January ahead of the PyeongChang 2018 Olympic Winter Games.

Favourites

Favourites for the win include last season’s top three Xu Mengtao (CHN), Danielle Scott and Lydia Lassila (both AUS), while on the men’s side, crystal globe winner Qi Guangpu (CHN), Mac Bohonnon (USA) and reigning Olympic Champion Anton Kushnir (BLR) are among the athletes to keep an eye on.

 

Alpine Snowboard

Also in the world of alpine snowboard, excitement is high as the FIS World Cup tour is set to get underway with PGS competitions in Carezza (ITA) on 14th December. As in previous years, Carezza will host the first stop of the tour which will feature nine stops across seven countries this season.

Favourites

The top names expected to vie for victories include last season’s parallel overall winner Ester Ledecka (CZE) as well as Alena Zavarzina (RUS), Patrizia Kummer (SUI) and Sabine Schoeffmann (AUT). On the men’s side, some of the riders to keep an eye on include overall winner Andreas Promegger (AUT), shooting star Radoslav Yankov (BUL) and Andrey Sobolev (RUS).
