What's New At Schweitzer For Winter 2023/24
Schweitzer, the largest mountain resort in Idaho, will debut an array of new features and enhancements this winter. Celebrating its third year as part of the Ikon Pass community, visitors to Schweitzer this winter will enjoy an even faster trip up the mountain with the new Creekside Express Chairlift. This will also be the first full winter for the new Cambium Spa, located in Schweitzer’s village.
"Every winter at Schweitzer is an opportunity to create cherished memories," said Tom Chasse, president and chief operating officer of Schweitzer. "With improved access via the new Creekside Express and chances to chill at Cambium, we are setting the stage for unforgettable experiences this season."
The highlight of the season is the debut of the state-of-the-art Creekside Express chairlift, a high-speed detachable quad that replaces the Musical Chairs fixed grip double. This new lift is poised to elevate the experience for guests of all ages and abilities with the detachable design making it easier for beginner skiers and riders to load and unload. The lift promises quicker access to the mountain from the base area with an increase in capacity to 2,400 riders per hour, double the previous capacity. The design also allows for foot passengers without skis or snowboards to be transported to and from the village, even in the summer. The Creekside Express is the third new lift at Schweitzer in the last five years.
The new Creekside Express marks the completion of the first phase of the new Schweitzer Creek Village project. Designed to reimagine the guest arrival experience for day-guests, Schweitzer Creek Village is one of the largest infrastructure projects in Schweitzer’s history. Subsequent phases of the project will include a new 1,400-space parking lot, a new day lodge, improved access to the mountain, and expanded beginner and intermediate terrain.
- Cambium Spa's First Full Winter. In addition to the on-mountain developments, guests can also experience Cambium Spa, which will be open for its first full winter season. Cambium offers cutting-edge treatments from halo infrared therapy to sound loungers. The spa’s unique services are designed to help guests Rev Up for their day, Reboot from their mountain adventures, and Tune In to their mind and body. Cambium is located in Schweitzer’s village, adjacent to Humbird, a 31-room boutique hotel that opened in 2022.
- Employee Housing. Construction is nearing completion at the new $22 million employee housing project, Schralpenhaus in Ponderay. The first phase of the project, which includes 84 apartments, is expected to open in advance of the 2023/24 winter season. Schralpenhaus includes one-, two- and three-bedroom units all with full kitchens, washers and dryers, and access to ski and bike storage. Schweitzer employees will have first access to the new housing, with unleased units made available to other community members. Future plans for the development include additional housing units, covered picnic areas, outdoor play areas, walking paths, workout facilities and a full-service daycare facility aimed at serving Schweitzer employees with young children in need of quality, affordable childcare.
- Ikon Pass Unlimited. As the newest member of the Alterra Mountain Company family, Ikon Pass holders have more reasons to experience skiing and riding in the Pacific Northwest with Schweitzer offering unlimited access with a 23/24 Ikon Pass. Ikon Base Pass will continue to offer 5-day access to Schweitzer with blackout dates.
Located 90 miles from Spokane, Wash. in the rugged Selkirk Mountains of Idaho’s panhandle, Schweitzer boasts 2,900 acres of skiable terrain, offering a mix of high angle groomers, gladed tree runs and wide-open bowl skiing and riding. Schweitzer’s size as the largest mountain resort in Idaho isn’t the only standout feature. Perched 2,000 feet above the picturesque town of Sandpoint and Lake Pend Oreille, Schweitzer’s intimate mountain village offers a year-round mix of family-friendly activities, dining, spa, and slopeside lodging. Soak in 360-degree views of neighboring mountain ranges in Montana, Washington, and Canada from the summit top, and enjoy best-in-class skiing at one of the Pacific Northwest’s favorite mountains. Schweitzer is a part of the Alterra Mountain Company family and a member of the Ikon Pass community.
