Vorarlberg Lift Co’s: 100 More Operating Days Despite Adverse Circumstances
At the end of March, the Vorarlberg cable cars took stock of the 2022/23 winter season: despite the difficult weather conditions, there were 100 more operating days than in the 2021/22 winter season. With a total of 5.2 million skiers, there was also an increase of 200,000 in first-time entries.
With a total of 3,600 days of operation and 5.2 million skiers, the Vorarlberger Bergbahnen were able to record a slight increase in 2022/23: That is around 100 days and 4 percent more skiers than in winter 2021/22. There are big differences between the higher and lower ski areas. “Due to the weather and the snow conditions, the cable cars were not able to exploit their full potential this year. In a difficult winter, despite the sometimes critical media coverage, we were able to achieve more operating days and get more guests excited about skiing than in the previous season," explains Andreas Gapp, chairman of the Vorarlberg cable cars.
Good season mainly thanks to the multi-day guests
The weather conditions have contributed to the fact that fewer day visitors came to the ski areas. "The past winter season went well, primarily thanks to the multi-day guests - the fact that there were no day guests is certainly also due to the mostly mild temperatures in the valley and the media reports. The multi-day guest gets in the mood for a winter holiday when they arrive, the day guest, i.e. mostly the locals, only when the corresponding wintry temperatures and snow conditions prevail in the valley. And these were simply lacking this year,” Gapp stated
