Volkl Presents Limited Edition Collection With Internationally Acclaimed Designer Filip Pagowski

Völkl, the renowned German ski manufacturer based in Straubing, has collaborated with Filip Pagowski, the Polish designer and graphic artist known for his use of bold shapes and dynamic energy in his designs, to create a limited collection that brings a touch of fashion and art to the slopes. The Völkl x Filip Pagowski collection includes limited edition designs of three popular Völkl models from the Racetiger, Peregrine and Blaze lines. The Völkl x Filip Pagowski skis will be exclusively available immediately online at Völkl.com and exclusively at Gorsuch Sports in the US.

“We are always seeking collaboration opportunities to explore innovative approaches to product design and inspire new audiences,” says Markus Knipschild, Global Brand Business Director at Völkl. “Beyond his passion for skiing, Filip is a perfect fit for us in his approach to projects and challenges. He takes a keen interest in each product, pays meticulous attention to every detail, and immerses himself deeply in the work to ultimately achieve the best possible outcome, just as we do at Völkl.”

An avid skier, Pagowski has a home in Chamonix, where he skis as much as his busy schedule allows. Pagowski is best known for his PLAY logo for Comme des Garçons featuring a red heart with black eyes, but he has also created memorable designs for Ikea, Nike and the NBA, and in 2016 designed the cover art of Drake’s single Summer Sixteen. For his collaboration with Völkl, Pagowski visited the Völkl factory in Straubing where he learned about the technical aspects of the popular Racetiger SL, Peregrine 72, and Blaze 104 models, which served as the creative foundation for his new designs.

A story of claws and powerful patterns

The three designs in the collection are unmistakably cohesive, while simultaneously translate the unique characteristics of each Völkl model with distinctive lines, patterns, and shapes.

For the Völkl Racetiger SL, the high-performance slalom ski featuring the latest World Cup technology, Pagowski sought to capture the technical precision and dynamics of fast, short turns in his design.

“I strategically employed graphics to convey the energy of this technically demanding racing ski,” explains Pagowski.

For the Blaze 104, the versatile freeride ski capable in a multitude of conditions and terrain, Pagowski used the Völkl logo as the basis for a powerful and dynamic pattern.

“To visually represent the freeride identity of this ski, which confidently navigates untracked terrain and leaves its mark on untouched snow, I integrated the Völkl logo in a recurring manner. It is intended to resemble the tread of an off-road tire with similar characteristics,” says Pagowski of his inspiration behind the design.

Pagowski played off the Peregrine 72’s name, an extremely agile ski for fast, powerful, and playful skiing, for its design.

“The Peregrine is a highly sporty, versatile ski. I have artfully integrated the image of the claws of the eponymous peregrine, which enable it to maintain a firm grip in all types of snow and terrain, into the graphics,” explains Pagowski, describing the concept behind the third ski in the collaboration.
