USA Nordic Sport Athlete Jasper Good Announces Retirement From Nordic Combined
USA Nordic Sport athlete Jasper Good announced his retirement from the sport of Nordic Combined. Good, a two-time Winter Olympian and FIS Nordic World Ski Championships team member, spent a total of eight seasons on the United States Men’s Nordic Combined National Team.
“I came to this decision on my own terms, with the timeline that I wanted. I will always love the community, sport, values, training, and much more that I experienced during my time competing.”
Good grew up in Steamboat Springs, Colorado, where he competed for the Steamboat Springs Winter Sports Club. After being named to the National Team in 2015, Good moved to Park City, Utah, making his Nordic Combined World Cup debut later that year. A consistent competitor on the World Cup circuit, Good earned his first-ever individual World Cup points during the 2018/2019 season in Trondheim, Norway. With his success on the World Cup circuit, Good earned two nominations to represent the United States at the FIS Nordic World Ski Championships. Good attended the 2019 World Championships in Seefeld, Austria, as well as the 2021 World Championships in Oberstdorf, Germany, where he competed in both the Large and Normal Hill events during the two appearances.
“My earliest memories began at the Steamboat Springs Winter Sports Club, a young kid stoked to ski every day. It quickly progressed to a love for flight, pushing myself and spending time in the community. The excitement of my first trip to Europe opened up my eyes to the world and how amazing travel can be. The bonds and work ethic I learned while on the National Team will stay with me forever.”
Good’s first nomination to represent the United States at the Olympic Winter Games came in 2018, as he competed in PyeongChang, South Korea. After representing his country in PyeongChang, Good enlisted in the U.S. Army World Class Athlete Program in 2019, through the U.S. Army National Guard. Good was then selected to represent the United States in 2022 at the Olympic Winter Games in Beijing, China, where he helped his teammates achieve a sixth place finish in the Team HS140/4x5km event. Good was also able to record a new Winter Olympics personal best in Beijing, finishing 34th overall in the HS140/10km event.
“Opening Ceremonies of both of my Olympic Games were one of my favorite memories. The honor I felt to be walking in with my fellow teammates behind the US flag meant so much. My choice to enlist in the US Army National Guard made that honor mean so much more. Everything that I had sacrificed and put into achieving those goals was worth it.
I will forever love my time competing in Nordic Combined and I wouldn’t trade it for anything. I am incredibly fortunate to have the support systems that helped me achieve my goals. That is something that means more to me than I can truly put words to. I look forward to supporting the community and family that gave me so much.”
“Jasper has been an integral part of this team ever since he became a part of it. He was able to represent USA Nordic and the United States at two Winter Olympics, as well as multiple World Championships,” said Men’s Nordic Combined Team Director, Nick Hendrickson. “He’s been a fantastic role model for many athletes coming up in our junior system, and a great teammate on the National Team as well. We’re really looking forward to seeing what Jasper does in the future, and we hope to have him involved with the team in some capacity in the following years.”
