USA Nordic - 2024 Youth Olympic Games Recap – Nordic Combined

Nordic Combined has wrapped up competition at the Youth Olympic Games in Gangwon, South Korea. Ella Wilson, Kai McKinnon, Anders Giese and Arthur Tirone represented the United States, with all four athletes competing in an individual event on January 29th, and finished up with a mixed team event earlier today.

On January 29th, Women’s Nordic Combined competed in the HS109/4km event, with Men’s Nordic Combined competing in a HS109/6km event of their own. On the hill, Ella Wilson jumped to 9th overall, after putting together a 95.5 meter jump for 104.6 points. Kai McKinnon landed in 16th place, jumping to 83.0 meters for 78.8 points. Men’s Nordic Combined took the hill shortly after, with Arthur Tirone landing in the 23rd position(87.0 meters, 88.3 points), and Anders Giese taking the 29th position (69.5 meters, 57.1 points). Later in the day, athletes took the Cross-Country course, with Women’s Nordic Combined up first. Ella Wilson finished 11th overall, completing the 4km course in 10:55.3, with Kai McKinnon coming in 16th place, as she finished the race with a total time of 10:25.9. On the men’s side, Arthur Tirone placed 22nd overall, finishing the 6km course in 13:38.3. Anders Giese followed in 28th place, finishing the race with a total time of 14:04.2.

The final event for Nordic Combined at the Youth Olympic Games came on January 31st, as all four athletes competed in the Mixed Team HS109/4×3.3km event. On the hill, McKinnon had the longest jump of the day with 86.0 meters, Wilson followed with an 83.0 meter jump of her own, with Tirone going 79.0 meters and Giese going 74.0 meters, totaling 285.8 points. This put the foursome in 9th place for the 4×3.3km race, +2:43 back from the leading nation. During the 4×3.3km, the athletes were able to maintain their position, placing 9th overall with a total time of 35:07.3, +3:41.1 behind the winning nation.
