U.S. Ski & Snowboard Names Tom Webb As Marketing Communications Director
U.S. Ski & Snowboard has named longtime sports marketing veteran Tom Webb to the newly created position of director of marketing and communications. He started with the Park City-based Olympic sports organization in late October.
Webb was added to U.S. Ski & Snowboard’s marketing team to help raise the profile of its roster of world class athletes in the USA and internationally as a part of the organization's commercial endeavors under newly named Chief Commercial Officer Dan Barnett. He will also be directly engaged in supporting U.S. Ski & Snowboard's growing list of global commercial partners. Webb and Barnett, who took over in July, worked together previously on the America's Cup in Bermuda.
Webb brings over 20 years working in international sports marketing. In addition to his recent role with the 35th iteration of the America’s Cup, he has an extensive background in motorsports. He has worked in marketing roles with Circuit of The Americas in Austin, Texas, home of the US Formula 1 Grand Prix, and with the Caterham F1 Team which raced in Formula 1 from 2010 through 2014. He also has experience working with Red Bull and agencies in the United Kingdom working on clients including Emirates Airline, Polo Ralph Lauren and Virgin.
"Tom brings decades of experience and a skillset that will help us continue to increase awareness of our incredible array of athletes and events not only in our home market in the USA, but also worldwide," said Barnett. "He and I have experience in helping sports properties and their primary assets- athletes-achieve the global recognition their exploits and successes deserve. His background will bring tangible value to our entire team at U.S. Ski & Snowboard and to our commercial partners."
U.S. Ski & Snowboard's expansion of its commercial efforts comes at an opportune time in the sport. Its athletes, such as Lindsey Vonn, Mikaela Shiffrin, Gus Kenworthy and Chloe Kim, are among the biggest stars being promoted for the upcoming Olympic Winter Games in PyeongChang this February. And in 2019 the USA will play host to the FIS World Championships in freestyle, snowboard and freeski.
U.S. Ski & Snowboard President and CEO Tiger Shaw brought Barnett on to drive the organization’s commercial and marketing efforts and provide strategic vision for the continued growth of its brand. U.S. Ski & Snowboard has long been one of the strongest brands in Olympic sport with significant global impact featuring world-recognized and accomplished athletes, a committed sponsor base and powerful international broadcast and digital media presence.
Webb will join a team that is specifically focused on marketing the sports' top athletes and events, growing engagement of fans and providing greater value to its partners.
