UK Sport Confirms GB Snowsport Funding For Milan-Cortina Cycle

UK Sport has confirmed GB Snowsport’s FUNDING FOR the Milan-Cortina cycle. In a statement GB Snowsport said:

"We acknowledge confirmation of UK Sport’s Funding Award to GB Snowsport for the Milan-Cortina cycle, which will see us receive a total of £11.9m to support our athletes’ preparations for the next Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games.

"This continued investment marks a welcome reinforcement of UK Sport’s backing of Britain’s skiers and snowboarders and, for the second cycle in a row, sees funding exceed the levels invested for the 2018 PyeongChang Games. However, we cannot hide our disappointment that we have not yet persuaded UK Sport to back our athletes to the levels we have seen in the recent past. We will now work closely with UK Sport to understand next steps and to ensure funding is targeted towards disciplines and events that UK Sport believe are most likely to deliver further success on the global stage.

"While this funding will directly support our efforts to deliver world class performances in the first Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games to be held in Europe since 2014, it will also ensure British snowsport programmes are supported through a cycle of vital World Cup, World Championships, Europa Cup and FIS level competitions over the coming four years on their qualification journey for Milan-Cortina 2026, settings in which British athletes have excelled in recent years.

"We enter this new funding cycle having seen the most successful season in British skiing and snowboarding history, with Dave Ryding’s Alpine World Cup victory, Charlotte Bankes’ Snowboard Cross Crystal Globe, Mia Brookes’ dominance of the Freestyle Snowboard Europa Cup circuit, the medal-winning performances of the Simpson brothers, Ollie Hill, Menna Fitzpatrick and Gary Smith, and Millie Knight and Brett Wild at the Beijing Paralympic Winter Games, and a total of 51 podium positions at World Cup, World Championship, and Europa Cup level, including 10 medals at the World Para Snow Sports Championships in Lillehammer, as well as previous successes for Zoe Atkin and Charlotte Bankes at World Championships proving GB Snowsport’s ability to develop athletes capable of competing at the highest levels of global snowsport.
