Sustainability: Awards for climate-friendly ski areas
Two ski areas in Tyrol have been recognized for their efforts in terms of sustainability and climate protection: The Silvretta Arena in Paznaun has been working on becoming climate-neutral since 2019. For this purpose, the greenhouse emissions in the ski area are calculated, reduced where possible, and all unavoidable emissions are offset through recognized climate protection projects. Since the beginning of 2021, the Silvrettaseilbahn AG has been operating all facilities, mountain restaurants and snow systems with 100 percent green electricity from Austria and has also received the green electricity certificate for this.
Various environmental protection measures are also taken in the SkiWelt Wilder Kaiser-Brixental in order to make operations as sustainable as possible: For example, the Sonnenlift in Brixen is 100 percent solar-powered, the energy for the entire system comes 100 percent from hydropower, construction work are accompanied by nature conservation experts and even building colors are coordinated in harmony with nature. The SkiWelt Wilder Kaiser-Brixental has already received several awards for these efforts and was most recently voted one of the “most environmentally friendly ski areas in Austria” by the platform skiresort.de.
