Titlis Connect: New Aerial Tramway Officially Inaugurated After Two Years Of Construction

After approximately two years of intensive construction work, the Titlis Connect aerial tramway was completed on schedule. The new cable car system from Steurer Seilbahnen was recently officially inaugurated with a celebratory ceremony. Around 75 invited guests attended the inauguration and were given a first glimpse of the state-of-the-art infrastructure.

"With the Titlis Connect, we are creating a pioneering connection between the station and Mount Titlis – functional, safe, and architecturally sophisticated. The new cable car plays a key role in the successful progress of our overall TITLIS project," says Norbert Patt, CEO of Titlis Bergbahnen.

First operational phase for material transport

The single-track Titlis Connect aerial tramway runs parallel to the existing Titlis Rotair cable car and climbs approximately 564 meters in altitude over a distance of 1,396 meters – from the valley station at 2,428 meters above sea level to the mountain station at 2,992 meters above sea level. With a maximum gradient of 76 percent, it masters challenging terrain and was primarily designed for material transport as part of the comprehensive TITLIS project. In its first operational phase, which is now starting, it will serve the safe and efficient transport of construction and demolition materials, as well as construction and operating personnel.

Guest transport from 2026

However, the cable car is already designed for future operating phases, during which it will also be used for public transport. The cable car will be put into operation for Titlis guests starting in summer 2026 – during the dismantling of the existing Titlis mountain station and the temporary decommissioning of the Titlis Rotair. Titlis Connect will continue to play a central role in the years to come: It guarantees year-round accessibility to Titlis – especially during the annual maintenance work on the Rotair, when it is out of service.

Modern technology and design for the Titlis Connect

The Titlis Connect is equipped with state-of-the-art technology and guarantees maximum safety. The cable car's control system is by Frey Stans. The cabin was manufactured by Calag Carrosserie Langenthal AG and is designed according to the Titlis Rotair—with mirrored surfaces and a Swiss cross on the floor. Construction of the stations was carried out by the ARGE TITLIS, consisting of Marti Zentralschweiz, PORR Suisse, and Bürgi Bau. The mountain station of the new cable car was designed by the renowned architectural firm Herzog & de Meuron.
