Tickets Released For Braemar Mountain Festival 1st – 4th March 2018
Some of Scotland’s most respected climbers will be in Braemar in March. They’ll be taking part in the second annual Braemar Mountain Festival which promises to be even bigger and better than last year’s inaugural event. Among the big names lined up are Dave MacLeod, Guy Robertson and Greg. Last year almost a thousand tickets were sold across thirty events. It was so successful the organisers had no hesitation in deciding to make the Festival an annual celebration of the mountains.
Dave Macleod is probably the best known of the big names. He established what is regarded as the world’s hardest traditional rock climb at Dumbarton Rock near Glasgow and has put up many first ascents of sport, boulder, mixed, and traditional climbs. Guy Robertson from Aberdeen is at the forefront of Scottish winter climbing and has recently pioneered many first ascents across Scotland.
Greg Boswell is one of Scotland’s most experienced young climbers, having started in 2004 at the age of 13. He recently survived a grizzly bear attack in Canada. Other speakers will include Charlotte Peacock author of the first biography of legendary Cairngorms writer Nan Shepherd.
Sue Harper Todd, one of the organising team said: “Many activities sold out last year so we have planned an even more ambitious Festival in 2018. We have doubled the number of events and venues, and extended the Festival by an extra day. This has allowed us to keep all the popular activities as well as some exciting new additions such as mountain biking, adventure film making and mountain first aid. We’ll also showcase mountain photography, film and art as well as running a varied programme of mountain based winter sports and skill sessions and of course will be offering legendary Scottish hospitality including a ceilidh, live music and local whisky!”
The festival will be centred at Braemar, in the heart of the Cairngorms National Park, from Thursday 1st March to Sunday 4th, just ten minutes’ drive from Glenshee Ski Centre, where some of the activity based sessions will be held.
