Thredbo Alpine Coaster 2.0 Opens

At the beginning of the year, a large Wiegand team of 4 main fitters and 8 helpers set off for Canberra, then travelled on to Thredbo, one of Australia's most important winter sports resorts, to begin assembling the almost 1.5 km long Alpine Coaster. A classic Wiegand summer toboggan run in the shape of a trough has been in place there since 1992.

The fitters worked in several teams at different locations on the site. The client was enthusiastic about the excellent cooperation and the rapid progress of the construction.

40 themed comfort sledges for two adults are now available for the fast ride over the approximately 1 km varied downhill route.

Three roundabouts alternating with straight sections and curves, waves and jumps and bridge constructions up to 12 m high provide the adrenaline rush for the tobogganers.

Immediately after starting at the valley station, guests are transported on their sledges through a 30 m long tunnel under the ski slope before being taken up the mountain using the Wiegand lift system.

The entire route, including tunnels and bridges, allows for the ski slope and the Alpine Coaster to be operated simultaneously without any modifications being necessary, although the all-weather track is a very good alternative given the current lack of snow.

Driver assistance systems such as the wear-free eddy current-based limit and service brake are also included as standard in the scope of delivery of the Alpine Coaster 2.0.

Seat belt locks and front and rear lights on the sleds also ensure maximum possible safety.

And if it rains, that's no problem either: rain covers ensure that guests are protected from the weather.

Sleds that are not needed can be easily lifted out of the track using the garage system and stored in the building.

Acceptance by TÜV Thüringen

Since the testing guidelines are also very strict in Australia, but there is no experience there with facilities such as the Alpine Coaster, the German TÜV was called to Australia to test the toboggan run in May in the presence of the responsible Australian authority, inspect it and approve it for operation - with success. Finally, Australia's first Alpine Coaster was officially opened at the start of the winter season on June 8th amidst a large crowd of visitors and tested by numerous tourists and locals.
