Thermowave Adds Olympic Skier Katia Griffiths To Athlete Team

Thermowave, the Merino wool performance apparel manufacturer, added Olympian Katia Griffiths to its ambassador team.

Griffiths is best known for competing in the Olympic debut of the ski halfpipe at the 2014 Sochi Winter Olympics, finishing 16th in the qualification.

“Working with ambassadors has proven to be the best motivation for our team,” said Audrius Pocius, CEO of Thermowave. “When we get to connect with real-life outdoor adventurers and athletes, that is when we see our products in action, being tested in both performance and reliability.”

After placing fifth at the 2009 and 2011 Freestyle Skiing World Cup in La Plagne and Kreischberg, Griffiths made her Olympic debut at the 2014 Sochi Winter Olympics. She represented Spain as the only participant in the halfpipe competition and finished in 16th place. When asked what fuels her commitment to the sport, Katia said, “Passion keeps you focused and motivated when training. Sometimes, when you are not getting the results you want or you are dealing with injuries, it’s hard to keep going. But that is when you really need to keep pushing. And at the end of the day, it’s about enjoying the journey.”

Thermowave reported that Griffiths is also “an environmentalist and holds a bachelor’s degree in environmental science. Embodying Thermowave’s core values, her passion for sustainability, and her experience as a professional skier make Katia the perfect ambassador for the Merino wool performance apparel brand.”

Griffiths is testing Thermowave’s latest Merino ReNew Jacket—a mid-layer jacket made with recycled merino wool sourced in Italy.
