The Music Is On! Alpine Drive In The Zillertal

"Tufting up" is the order of the day when the cows with their magnificent head dresses made of fir green, silver thistles and ribbons head towards the valley during the cattle drive. From mid-September, the ringing of cowbells fills the Fügen-Kaltenbach holiday region in the Zillertal several times: a total of nine cattle drives take place in Fügen, Stumm, Stummerberg and Hart in the Zillertal.

In September, not only the leaves shine in colorful splendor, but also the cows. Time to leave the alpine meadows all bundled up and hike into the valley to spend the winter on the farm.

With a large bell around her neck, the lead cow leads the herd safely down the mountain. A spectacle that is watched year after year with enthusiasm by spectators from all over the world who await the decorated animals with music, traditional dance units and Zillertal donuts. In the Fügen-Kaltenbach holiday region in the Zillertal, several different cattle drives delight young and old alike. Every year, the cattle drives celebrate the safe return of the animals and dairymen and say goodbye to summer. "The cattle drive plays a very special role for us in the Zillertal and is an absolute highlight for visitors, holidaymakers and guests. It once again conveys our connection to customs and tradition," explains Manfred Pfister, managing director of the tourism association.

With free admission, the Almabtriebe will take place in Fügen on September 16th at the Kohlerhof, on September 23rd in the town center and at the Oberhubenhof on Pankrazberg, and at the Gasteighof in Kapfing on October 7th. From 10:00 a.m. onwards, visitors enjoy culinary highlights and an extensive supporting program with lots of music. The cattle drive on Stummerberg (Gattererberg) takes place on Sunday, September 17th, from 10:00 a.m. at the Gasthof Almluft. “The Halodris from Zillertal” and a Schuhplattler group ensure the best atmosphere. In Stumm the cows drive on Saturday, September 23rd from 10:00 a.m. at the fire station and from 3:00 p.m. at the Schuster Bauern “huam” and at the Baderhof on September 30th from 11:00 a.m. The finale is the Almabtrieb in Hart in the Zillertal near the Moarhof, starting at 11:
