Test winner 2021: Skiresort.de Recognises “The Best Ski Areas Worldwide”
"And the test winner award goes to ...". The world's largest test portal for ski areas, Skiresort.de, also selected its top ski areas in 2021. The annual test winner awards are considered industry awards - for ski and boarder fans as well as for the ski areas themselves. No wonder, after all, the awards have been presented for the twenty-third time.
As the world's largest supplier of snow reports, the company behind “Skiresort”, “Skiresort Service International”, supplies more than 100 high-coverage partners - and is a leading provider of complete ski area data and ski weather.
Every year the ski area experts from Skiresort.de bring their worldwide test results straight from the slopes. They check and evaluate according to 18 criteria: from the size of the ski area, guaranteed snow and family-friendliness to the range of huts and environmental friendliness. Over the past few years, more than 450 ski areas in 26 countries have been thoroughly tested. The ski resort team around the two makers, Oliver Kern and Peter Krafft, selected the 2021 test winners from the latest experience reports.
For the ninth time in a row, KitzSki - Kitzbühel / Kirchberg can look forward to the highest award of the world's best ski area. With an overall test result of 4.9 out of a possible 5 stars, the Austrian ski destination is right at the front. Ischgl / Samnaun, Serfaus-Fiss-Ladis, Ski Arlberg, the SkiWelt Wilder Kaiser-Brixental, Hochzillertal / Hochfügen, Sölden, the Skicircus Saalbach Hinterglemm Leogang Fieberbunn are also in the 5-star range and thus among the best ski areas in the world. the Zillertal Arena, the Schladminger 4-Berge-Skischaukel, Mayrhofen, Obertauern, the Silvretta Montafon, Hochkönig and the Snow Space Salzburg, all of them Austrian ski areas. In Switzerland, the Skiresort.de team awarded prizes to the Arosa Lenzerheide, St. Moritz - Corviglia, Laax and Zermatt ski areas. In Italy Val Gardena, Madonna di Campiglio and Plan de Corones awarded. In addition, Skiresort.de recognized Les 3 Vallées and Tignes / Val d'Isère in France, Whistler Blackcomb in Canada and Vail, Telluride and Beaver Creek as 5-star ski resorts in the USA.
As in the previous season, some top-class ski areas up to 80 km and up to 60 km of slopes as well as insider tips up to 40 km, 30 km and 20 km of slopes were selected. “Slope fans who value certain individual criteria of a ski area will also find what they are looking for with our test winners,” explains Oliver Kern.
As a special treat on the slopes, the test team from Skiresort.de has awarded some very special highlights of the ski areas. The best indoor ski area can be found in the Alpenpark Neuss in North Rhine-Westphalia, the best black descent (Black Diamond Slope) is in Arosa and the best heli-skiing in Riksgränsen in Sweden. The best new lift - from Doppelmayr of course - is in Wildhaus, Switzerland. The most breathtaking panorama promises the cross-border Zermatt / Breuil-Cervinia with a view of the Matterhorn. And the best ski valley is the Zillertal.
