Switzerland Is Lifting Voluntary Measures For Mountain Lifts

The cable car industry voluntarily introduced additional Covid measures in December 2021. These include capacity restrictions in large cabins with standing room and indoor distance regulations. Fortunately, the epidemiological situation has eased in recent weeks. For this reason, the industry is repealing these measures as of February 17, 2022.
With the capacity limitation for large cabins and the obligation to wear masks, the mountain railway industry enabled safe winter operations for guests and employees during the ongoing pandemic. This was very much appreciated and honored by the guests: the season monitoring of Swiss cable cars shows that the mountain railways are used with pleasure and often. Exercise in the fresh air strengthens your health and brings a welcome balance to your daily work routine.
Same measures as in public transport
"Also this winter, the cable cars have proven that they can successfully implement the necessary measures for safe transport and winter sports operations," says Berno Stoffel, Director of Cable Cars Switzerland. “With the lifting of capacity restrictions in large gondolas and the removal of distance restrictions, the mountain railway industry is adapting the measures to those of public transport. The mask requirement in closed cabins remains in place. The fact that the epidemiological situation eased in most cantons shortly before the start of the sports week is a fortunate coincidence, »continued Berno Stoffel.
Uniform solution developed
In consultation with the federal government and cantons and after consultation with members of the association, Seilbahnen Schweiz is presenting a solution for the whole of Switzerland for the entire industry. This winter, the association has worked hard to ensure that the same measures apply everywhere in Switzerland. Seilbahnen Schweiz is confident that the guests will also welcome and support the "new normalization" in the ski areas.
