Switzerland: Additional Covid Measures Implemented In Ski Areas

The mountain railway industry is aware of the difficult epidemiological situation and is voluntarily introducing new measures for safe winter operation. In addition to the current regulations such as mask compulsory in closed cabins and clearance indoors, the industry is introducing new capacity restrictions in large cabins with standing room.
In the past winter season, the mountain railways enabled relaxation and nature experiences that had a positive effect on the physical and psychological condition of the guests. This year, too, the industry is endeavoring to guarantee safe winter operation with nationally uniform regulations. Because the safety of the guests is a top priority for the mountain railway operator.
Cable cars are a means of transport and therefore the same protective measures as in public transport have applied up to now. This includes the requirement to wear a mask in closed rooms, distance indoors and ventilating the gondolas.
From December 18, 2021, large gondolas (with a capacity of more than 25 people with only standing space) should only be used to 70%. In addition, an orderly queuing with the corresponding distance regulations is organized in the outdoor area. The mountain railways are aware of their responsibility and will ensure that the measures are implemented consistently. This also includes the certificate control in the mountain restaurants.

Uniform national solution

With the additional measures, there is a uniform solution across Switzerland. The association is thus making a contribution to preventing a patchwork of different regulations in the individual cantons. He is satisfied that a pragmatic and feasible way has been found in cooperation with the mountain cantons.
