Swiss Sudostbahn AG & Santis-Schwebebahn AG Joining Forces
The Swiss Südostbahn AG (SOB) and the Säntis-Schwebebahn AG are joining forces: With a new cooperation, the two transport companies are offering travellers attractive combination deals. To inspire cable car passengers to travel with the Südostbahn, they will now float in a copper-coloured Traverso cabin from the Schwägalp to the Säntis.
Anyone who travels from Schwägalp to Säntis in the future will be able to do so in an "SOB gondola". One of the two cabins floats copper-colored like a Traverso on the 2502 meter high mountain in the Alpstein. The copper-colored SOB Traverso trains originally run as the "Voralpen-Express" from eastern to central Switzerland, as the "Treno Gottardo" from German-speaking Switzerland to Ticino and as the "Aare Linth" from Chur towards Bern. From the timetable change in 2024, the Traverso will also serve the route between Chur and St. Gallen through the Rhine Valley.
It is no coincidence that, after a tram in the city of Zurich last year, the Südostbahn is now sending a cable car gondola in the copper-colored Traverso dress on its way: "The differences between the densely built-up city and the rugged mountains could not be greater," says Reto Ebnöther, Head of Marketing and Sales at the Südostbahn. But: "Public transport is the connection and common lifeline of both regions. It enables comfortable travel from the urban center through small villages to the most beautiful viewpoints."
With its trains, the Südostbahn not only connects the most beautiful regions of Switzerland, but also its tourist attractions. Combined offers of trains and excursions as well as other leisure activities can be booked on the digital marketplace of the SOB and its partners. The selection has grown steadily in recent years and the offers are very popular.
A new combination offer is also available for the trip to Säntis. For 59 francs with a half-fare ticket, the outward and return journey from Zurich or Lucerne as well as the trip to Säntis are included in the combination offer. Jakob Gülünay, Managing Director of Säntis Schwebebahn AG, says: "For us, this cooperation is another sign of our company's regional roots. Collaboration with various partners is becoming increasingly important and should be a win-win situation in all cases. Joint offers and measures are being developed, from which customers and both companies will benefit."
