Swedish Mogul Specialist Oskar Elofsson Announces Retirement
After sustaining three concussions in two years and facing all the fear and stress that goes with it, 23-year-old Oskar Elofsson (SWE) have made a decision to hang up his boots and retire from competitive skiing.
“It breaks my heart having to step out knowing that I have so much more to give but the risks are too high and health goes first, always,” said Elofsson in his statement on social media.
“I am endlessly thankful for all the support I have received throughout this journey. My friends and family, my irreplaceable team mates and coaches, physios, doctors, sponsors and all my amazing fellow athletes on tour that I’ve been fortunate enough to travel the world with. And thank you mogul skiing. Thank you for showing me the world, for all the friendships, for teaching me invaluable lessons and pushing me to my limits. I have enjoyed every moment and I am forever grateful. Thank you for the best years of my life.”
Elofsson’s journey with mogul skiing started at the age of 11 along with his older brother Felix. Oskar competed in his first FIS event back in 2015 in Drammen (NOR) and made his World Cup debut in 2017 in Ruka (FIN).
Since then, he competed in 35 World Cup competitions with his best result coming at the dual moguls event in Thaiwoo in 2018, where he finished second just behind Mikael Kingsbury (CAN). Elofsson wrapped up the 2018/19 World Cup season by winning “Rookie of the Year” award.
On top of that Elofsson competed in three World Championships events (2017, 2019 and 2021) as well as the 2022 Olympic Winter Games in Beijing, where he finished the moguls competition in 22nd place.
FIS said "On behalf of the entire FIS Freestyle family we would like to congratulate Oskar on a successful career and wish him the best of luck for the future, especially with his next challenges and adventures at the Copenhagen Business School."
