Svancer And Gremaud Wrap Up Chur Victories To Start FIS World Cup Big Air Season

Freeskiers Matěj Švancer and Mathilde Gremaud opened up their 2024/25 FIS World Cup Big Air seasons with victories at the Swiss resort of Chur. Here is all you need to know:

- 2020 Youth Olympic champion Švancer produced a superb first jump of 94.25 and, despite a poor 59.25 second score after he over-rotated, he hit back to record a 91.75 third jump for an imposing 186 total that Norway's Tormod Frostad and Canadian Dylan Deschamps could not beat.

- The victory gives him 100 points from the first Freeski Big Air event of the season to top the early pile and puts him alongside Canadian Brendan Mackay at the top of the Park & Pipe overall standings.

- The 20-year-old, who put down a left nosebutter triple cork 1620 safety in his first run followed by a switch left tailbutter triple cork 1260 safety in his third run, said: "It feels pretty insane. I learned the last trick during training out here, so I'm stoked it worked out."

- In the women's event, Swiss star Gremaud started her Big Air season the way she ended last season with a comfortable victory on home snow over Italian Flora Tabanelli and German Muriel Mohr.

- The Fribourg native, who won Big Air bronze at the 2022 Games in Beijing as well as Slopestyle gold, did a brilliant first jump of 91.25 and followed up with 87.25 for a 178.50 total as French rival Tess Ledeux ended in fifth after struggling to put together a decent jump on the night.

- The 24-year-old, who won the Big Air title last season with three victories from four events and now lies joint first in the overall standings, said: "It was so awesome to do it in front of my friends and family tonight. I want to do some new tricks this season and step up my own levels."

- With her win, Gremaud joins Ledeux and Norwegian Birk Ruud at second on the all-time FIS Freeski victory rankings with 14, while Švancer has now won two out of his three FIS World Cup wins so far in Chur.

The next 2024/25 FIS World Cup Freeski stop sees the Slopestyle stars out in the Austrian resort of Stubai on November 22-23.
