The Sun Peaks Golf Course superintendent, Keith Lyall was recently named the 2021 CGSA/Rain Bird Environmental Award winner. Keith implemented environmental preservation practices contributing to Sun Peaks’ ISO 14001 certification that were recognized by the Canadian Golf Superintendent Association (CGSA). The award goes to a golf course superintendent who has made notable environmental efforts and contributions to the golf industry and community. Keith is nearing 20 years in this role and has a long history of environmental stewardship in Sun Peaks. Sun Peaks' current environmental initiatives include greenhouse gas sustainability, restaurant green waste composting, LED lighting, and community treated wastewater used for golf irrigation and snowmaking.
An Axe-Citing New Experience: Cleavage Axe Co.
Thrill seekers looking for an authentic Canadian experience can now find what they’re looking for in Sun Peaks. Located in Peaks West, a short 15-minute walk from the village, Cleavage Axe Co. is the first business to offer axe throwing in Sun Peaks and will open their doors this June. With eight lanes and space for 44 throwers at once, it is the perfect environment for an engaging and interactive experience. Located in Peaks West, a short 15-minute walk from the village, catering options will be offered from neighbours Ohana Deli Market and the Magic Cattle Guard. This experience will offer guests an indoor option for both individual parties and larger groups up to 60 guests.

Sun Peaks celebrated the grand opening of its first ever in-resort tattoo shop this April. The owner and operator, Amie Easton, is well-versed in the world of art. She comes from long history of creativity and a full-time gig sketching cartoons for comic books back in her hometown, Prince George, B.C. Her style mostly reflects traditional tattooing; however, she’s always open to inking custom tattoos for her clients. Located at Fireside Lodge in the heart of the village, guests can easily stroll over to JuggerBean Tattoo Parlour for a new piece.
Sun Peaks Population Doubled
What was once a small group of just over 600 Sun Peaks locals in 2016, quickly bloomed into a community of 1,404 in 2022. In 6 short years, the Sun Peaks population has more than doubled in size with a whopping 127.9 per cent increase. Sun Peaks was granted Mountain Resort Municipality Status by the Province of British Columbia in 2010, with less than 400 permanent residents at the time. The Sun Peaks Mayor, Al Raine says he's pleased to hear the news and is excited about the future of Sun Peaks.
Retro Concert Weekend Returns
The fan favourite, Retro Concert Weekend will return to Sun Peaks this summer from August 26 – 28. Music lovers who favour the groovy, old time classics can jam out blast-to-past style as tribute bands take to the Slopeside Main Stage. Fans can expect to travel back in time with cover performances of hit songs from billboard chart toppers like ABBA, Fleetwood Mac, and ACDC. This Retro Concert Weekend will be the 11th annual in Sun Peaks and is sure to ignite vibrant summer energy.
