Successful Season For Fischer’s One Way Poles Culminates In Overall World Cup Win
With a radiant smile and a trace of emotion showing through in his face, France’s Quentin Fillon Maillet extended the overall World Cup winner’s sparkling crystal globe into Oslo’s blue sky. For him, as well as the ONE WAY Race Team, this is the crowning finish to a highly successful season. Thanks to outstanding success at the Peking Olympics, and taking nearly 20% of all World Cup medals, the highly motivated pole brand ONE WAY laid claim to being the clear number two in the Nordic disciplines for the second year in a row. In the Biathlon alone, 20 World Cup victories were earned with the Premio 30 pole from ONE WAY- a total no other brand could match in the just completed ’21-22 season.
The most successful athlete on the ONE WAY Race Team was indisputably Quenton Fillon Maillet. It wasn’t just his sensational results in Peking where the two-time Olympic champion showed his superiority- he set the pace for the entire season. With his excellent shooting and high performance skiing, the 29-year-old secured the overall World Cup title with eight individual World Cup victories. Those were also enough to earn him victories in the Sprint and Pursuit disciplines. “I’ve made my greatest dream a reality. I wanted to become the best biathlete in the world. I’ve sacrificed so much for it, but this huge globe makes it all worth it,” said the overjoyed winner, beaming over the hard-won crystal globe in the Oslo sun.
His compatriot Justine Braisaz-Bouchet already proved the Mass Start is something special for her with a victory in the Olympics. As the season ended, the French athlete could again celebrate victory in this discipline, and this winter’s two-time World Cup winner could hardly believe she won the crystal globe: “It’s unbelievable. This is the best thing that’s ever happened to me. I don’t know what the secret is to my success in the Mass Start- I just went out and enjoyed this season.”
Norway’s Vetle Sjaastad Christiansen also contributed to the ONE WAY Race Team’s successful medal haul with two World Cup victories, ending the season in an impressive fourth place in the overall standings, thanks to consistently good performances. World Cup victories for Dorothea Wierer, Julia Simon, and Benedikt Doll guaranteed ONE WAY’s fluorescent Premio 30 pole was proudly on display on the top of the podium.
Last year’s overall World Cup champion, Norway’s Tiril Eckhoff, found her form again, after a sluggish start to the season, just in time for the Olympics. The affable Scandinavian took home one of each of the medals, then finished up the season in style with three World Cup victories.
In cross country skiing, notable highlights were the Olympic bronze in Skiathlon by Austria’s Teresa Stadlober, as well as the silver medal in the Relay by Emil Iversen of Norway. Slovenian Anamarija Lampic could not match her previous year’s victory in the Sprint World Cup, but did grab second place, and had an overall impressive showing with five podium finishes. Emma Ribom of Sweden and Thomas Helland Larsen of Norway, both in cross country skiing; plus Fabian Riessle of Germany and Mario Seidl of Austria, both in Nordic Combined; all contributed second place World Cup finishes to the ONE WAY Race Team’s success in the ’21-22 season.
