Styrian Lift Co’s Are Well Prepared For The Winter Season.

The snowfall in the mountains is currently providing a foretaste of unforgettable winter sports and nature experiences. The Styrian cable cars are well prepared for this: 105 million euros were invested in the infrastructure before the start of the winter season.

Whether skiing, snowboarding, tobogganing or snowshoeing, Styria offers a wide range of winter sports options. "Everything is so close here that you don't have to travel far to enjoy the beauty of nature," says Fabrice Girardoni, chairman of the Styrian cable cars in the Styrian Chamber of Commerce. "Our cable cars are the key to this experience; they take people up into the mountains and open up the world of nature to them." To make this possible, major investments have recently been made at several locations. A total of 105 million euros have been invested in this.

“Stairway to Heaven” on the Dachstein

Impressive nature experiences can be found on the Dachstein, for example, which hosts the season opener. After a comprehensive redesign, the new mountain station officially opened its doors to the public on May 24, 2024. Under the motto "Energy Crystal", the mountain station was rebuilt in just nine months and now presents itself as a combination of functionality, sustainability and a feel-good atmosphere. A special highlight is the "Stairway to Heaven", a new viewing platform that offers brave visitors an unforgettable view of the imposing south faces of the Dachstein. Sustainability is also not neglected: There is a modern photovoltaic cladding that generates up to 80 percent of the energy required directly on site.

News at Loser Bergbahnen, Rohrmoos and Hauser Kaibling

There is also news at the Loser mountain railways: The Panoramabahn replaces the previous Loser Jet and the Loser 2 double chairlift, connecting the most important points on the mountain - from the Skiarena valley station to the mountain station at the Loser Alm. Particularly noteworthy are the barrier-free 10-seater cabins, which offer not only skiers, but also winter hikers and tobogganers the opportunity to enjoy the winter landscape. And the Hauser Kaibling now offers the most powerful chairlift in Styria: With a transport capacity of 3,600 people per hour and a journey time of just 4.5 minutes, the new Kaiblinggrat 8-seater chairlift takes guests quickly and comfortably to the transmitter plateau at 1,870 meters. Another exciting innovation is the 10-seater Rohrmoos I cable car. This modern cable car with a transport capacity of 2,400 people per hour replaces the previous double chairlift. For the first time, the 30 panoramic gondolas offer the possibility of storing skis directly in the gondola. This special feature is unique in the 4-mountain ski area and complements the offer with safe child transport options and the possibility of taking alternative sports equipment along.

Diversity in offering

Over 1,300 people employed directly by the cable car companies and a range of 190 lifts, including 43 chair lifts and 14 gondolas: these are the cable cars in Styria. The total of almost 1,000 kilometres of slopes offer the right offer for all guests. Whether you are a newcomer or an experienced regular, there is something for everyone, from the small, charming family ski area to the large 4-mountain ski area. School classes will find ideal conditions to make their first turns, as will ambitious athletes on challenging slopes and freeride routes. "Professionals and even World Cup champions train regularly in our region," says Girardoni proudly. "This diversity makes Styria one of the most attractive winter destinations for anyone who wants to combine sport, relaxation and nature."

Satisfied guests, top numbers

The figures from recent years, collected by Manova among around 40,000 guests, show how much people enjoy winter in the Styrian mountains: 80 percent are repeat guests, a third come to the local ski resorts every year, and one in five even comes several times per season. In addition, around 80 percent of guests give the price-performance ratio a rating of "very good" or "good". "The Styrian cable cars are much more than just a means of transport up the mountain - they are a crucial economic factor in the region," emphasizes Girardoni. "With a total investment of 105 million euros in the current season alone, they not only ensure tourist success, but also create and maintain numerous jobs. Our cable cars are an indispensable driver of the regional economy. Every euro that flows into our industry generates seven times the added value in the entire region," emphasizes Girardoni.
