Stubaital's First Ten-person Gondola Opens

After just five months of construction, the new Galtbergbahn in the Schlick 2000 ski and hiking center was ceremoniously opened. In the presence of State Secretary Florian Tursky, First Deputy State Governor Georg Dornauer, Tourism Regional Councilor Mario Gerber and the mayors of the Stubaital as well as invited guests, the LEITNER company railway was blessed by Father Peter Rinderer SDB and put into operation by CEO Martin Pittl. It is the first 10-person gondola lift to be built in one of the four Stubai ski areas. Thanks to the gearless direct drive, it runs in an energy-saving, almost silent and environmentally friendly manner.

A tight schedule was adhered to

Since the groundbreaking ceremony on June 23, 2023, the ambitious schedule of putting the Galtbergbahn into operation in time for the start of the 23/24 winter season has been adhered to. Not only was the new 10-person gondola lift from LEITNER completed with an extended route. In addition, the freed-up areas allowed the ski piste network to be expanded to include three sunny pistes on the south side of the area and new connecting paths, and the snowmaking system and storage pond to be expanded.
“My warmest thanks go out to the landowners, the authorities and, above all, to the construction companies and their workers who have done an almost inhumane job. “Thanks to their incredible work, the Galtbergbahn was able to be realized quickly and efficiently,” said Ing. Martin Pittl, Chairman of Schlick 2000, opening his speech.

Development of the south side of the ski area

The new Galtbergbahn replaces a drag lift from 1961 and goes significantly higher than before to 1,765 meters above sea level. By repositioning the mountain station, the popular Galtalm will be easier to reach for winter sports enthusiasts in the future.

“The construction of the new Galtbergbahn enriches the offering in the Schlick 2000 ski and hiking center with several attractions. The Galtberg, the traditional mountain on the sunny south side of the area, where many locals learned to ski, is now safely and conveniently accessible for all visitors. “In addition, with the expansion of the slopes to the middle station or back to the ski area, the Galtalm is completely integrated into the piste system,” says the mayor of Fulpmes, Johann Deutschmann, about the realization of the long-awaited project.

Quality and future-oriented product development

The Galtbergbahn also contributes to a significant improvement in quality and comfort and makes things easier, especially for ski schools and beginners. In the 23 spacious Evo XLine deep cabins with premium loden seats, you can safely overcome more than 400 meters in altitude in just under four minutes and enjoy the finest driving comfort.

The cable car is equipped with the gearless and almost noiseless, environmentally friendly direct drive developed by LEITNER. This results in energy savings of up to 9% and no need for any gear oils.
“The new Galtbergbahn not only underlines the high quality that is offered to our guests and locals in the Stubai ski areas. “It is another visible sign that our cable car partners are developing the systems and products responsibly, with an eye to the future,” says the chairman of the tourism association, Adrian Siller, confirming the pioneering role of the Stubaital ski and hiking area operators.
