Stein Eriksen Lodge To Reveal Elaborate Gingerbread Christmas Carousel Display
Standing over 10 feet tall and seven feet wide, this year’s Christmas-themed gingerbread carousel complete with reindeer and sleigh will be unveiled at Stein Eriksen Lodge on Saturday, Dec. 2, 2017. The crowd-pleasing, fanciful gingerbread display will be featured prominently in the Mountain Lodge next to a towering, 32-foot, exquisitely decorated Christmas tree, as complements to the Lodge’s holiday season splendor.
For 16 seasons now, Stein Eriksen Lodge’s executive pastry chef has delivered extravagant gingerbread masterpieces to delight guests of all ages. This year’s Christmas carousel features hundreds of pounds of fresh-baked gingerbread, fondant, cookies, and candy, as well as gallons of whipped royal icing. The gingerbread display requires months of planning and preparation by a team of gingerbread specialists, all overseen by Executive Pastry Chef Jeremy Garcia and Chef Zane Holmquist, VP of Food & Beverage Operations, Corporate Chef. With assistance from both the engineering and culinary departments, the gingerbread display generally requires a staff of more than ten people, with at least three working on it at a time.
“One of the greatest perks of my job is being able to surprise and entertain guests with our desserts and displays,” said Jeremy Garcia, Stein Eriksen Lodge's Executive Pastry Chef. “Creating something of this magnitude with pastries is an exciting challenge. Combined with our Christmas décor, a colorful carousel exudes a magical, wonderland feel, which is what we wanted to deliver to our guests during the holidays.”
Past year's showpieces have included scenes from movies, such as Star Wars, Peanuts, Frozen, Despicable Me 2, and Harry Potter, and elaborate replicas, such as the Eiffel Tower and Empire State Building.
