State Directorate Of Saxony Grants Building Permits For Nearly One Kilometer Long Lift System In Oberwiesenthal

The State Directorate of Saxony has grante building permits for a nearly one-kilometer-long lift system in the spa town of Oberwiesenthal

The State Directorate of Saxony has approved the construction of an approximately 950-meter-long 8-seater chairlift on the Kleiner Fichtelberg in the spa town of Oberwiesenthal. The project is sponsored by Fichtelberg Schwebebahn Kurort Oberwiesenthal GmbH.

There are currently two drag lifts on the Kleiner Fichtelberg that can transport around 1,200 winter sports enthusiasts per hour. During the busy season, there are often long waiting times. In addition, the two existing lifts require intensive maintenance and repairs.

For this reason, the existing drag lifts are to be dismantled and replaced by a chairlift that can accommodate up to eight people per chair. The plan also includes the construction of a new mountain and valley station that will be integrated into the existing ski area. The valley station is to be built in the area where the existing drag lift system starts, and the mountain station is to be located south of the Kleiner Fichtelberg summit. The new chairlift will therefore run directly along the existing slopes 4 and 8.

By increasing the transport capacity, waiting times in winter can be reduced in the future. The expansion of the piste area in the area of the mountain station serves to optimize the functionality of the facility and increase safety for skiers and snowboarders. In addition, the new chairlift enhances the tourist offer of the spa town and its surrounding catchment area.
