State Audit Office Of Upper Austria: Examination Of Selected Aspects Of Winter Tourism In Upper Austria
The aim of the audit was to ascertain the strategic orientation of the state of Upper Austria with regard to tourism in winter. An assessment should be made of how the country and its activities (measures and funding) are responding to expected (ecological and economic) changes in the long term. Among other things, the focus was on funding in the infrastructure sector for cable car/ski lift companies.
Financial subsidies for winter tourism from the state of Upper Austria
The state of Upper Austria supports winter tourism on several levels with financial resources. On the one hand, this is done by the state-owned cable car companies, which operate in Upper Austria. Seilbahnholding GmbH are combined. On the other hand, private cable car companies and ski area operators are supported within the framework of a wide variety of funding programs. In total, the subsidies attributable to winter tourism in the 2018 to 2021 audit period amounted to around 30 million euros. Approximately EUR 17.5 million of this was accounted for by state-owned companies. About 12.3 million euros were paid out through funding.
