Stallion Drive In Brixental Set For June 26th
On June 26th an impressive spectacle of wildlife can be observed in Brixental: At the Tyrolean Noriker stallion drive on the Stallbachkaralm in Aschau, the stallions compete in impressive ranking battles to determine the position of the lead stallion for the summer months. An event that is unique in Tyrol and is attended by hundreds of spectators every year.
After an intensive mating season, the stallions of the Tyrolean Noriker Horse Breeding Association are off to the Hengstenalm in Kirchberg for their summer retreat on Sunday, June 26th. But before the animals can graze peacefully next to each other on the alpine meadows in the rearmost Spertental, they have to prove their strength once again. In order to protect the horses from lengthy ranking battles in the summer months, they are invited to the paddock at the beginning of the alpine season to clarify the ranking in the herd.
Impressive duels of muscle men
The Norikers meet in duels in the arena and compete for the position of the lead stallion. An impressive spectacle every year when the powerhouses rear up to create the hierarchy for the alpine summer. The ranking fights can last for several hours, but once it is certain which horse will set the tone as the lead stallion, a harmonious coexistence of the animals is guaranteed for the following three months on the alpine pasture.
After the morning pint, the horses are loose
For all those who want to make the one and a half hour journey to the spectacle on the Stallbachkaralm: The starting signal for the stallion drive in the Brixental will be on Sunday, June 26th at 10 a.m. with a morning pint. At 11 a.m. the animals will be weighed and presented to the public. From about 12:00 p.m. it’s “ring free” and the unique spectacle of the stallions begins.
