St Moritz Ready For Winter 24

The weekend of 8-10 December opens the season with a programme titled “St. Moritz Winter Bliss”. On Saturday, while the Audi FIS Alpine Ski World Cup enflames the crowds on the slopes of Corviglia, a new-concept Christmas market will delight the whole family in the festively decorated village centre. Under the seven-metre Christmas tree, gospel and jazz concerts in Piazza Mauritius will spread holiday cheer through the streets of St. Moritz. Also on Saturday, Swiss singer-songwriter Bastian Baker will be giving a top-rate live concert in the snow at 1PM in Salastrains.

Lake St. Moritz: A stage of ice and snow

Amusements on the Lake will once again transform Lake St. Moritz into a winter playground for young and old from mid-January to mid-February 2024. In addition to food stalls and four live concerts, new this year are special rinks for pond hockey. The Snow Polo World Cup (26-28 January 2024) and the White Turf horse races (4, 11, and 18 February 2024) guarantee action-packed equestrian sport on the ice. As team sponsor, St. Moritz Tourismus AG will also feature prominently on the pitch of the world’s only “high goal” polo tournament on snow. The St. Moritz lake district will be all about golf during Snow Golf Days (7-9 February 2024) before it transforms into the stage for the world’s only winter classic car show, The ICE St. Moritz – International Concours of Elegance, 23-24 February 2024.

The Cresta & Bob Museum opens its doors

St. Moritz is where the sport of bobsleigh got its start over 125 years ago. The world’s first bobsleigh club was founded here at the Kulm Hotel in 1897: the Saint Moritz Bobsleigh Club (SMBC). On 21 December 2023, the Cresta & Bob Museum will open in the new Scala Cinema to tell the story of the bobsleigh in St. Moritz. With the BMW IBSF Bobsleigh & Skeleton World Cup (7-17 January 2024) and the IBSF Para Sport World Cup & European Championships (26 February – 1 March 2024), the Olympic Bob Run will again bring the spotlights of the sports world to the St. Moritz region.

Cultural highlights

The exhibition “Gerhard Richter: Engadin” is the first to focus on the relationship between the renowned German artist Gerhard Richter and the Engadin and his fascination for this landscape. From 9 December 2023 to 13 April 2024, Galerie Hauser & Wirth St. Moritz, the Segantini Museum in St. Moritz, and the Nietzsche House in Sils Maria will jointly present the exhibition curated by Dieter Schwarz. Meanwhile, the alpine edition of the NOMAD travelling art fair (22-25 February 2024) – accompanied by artists, collectors, and gallery owners from all over the world – will return to St. Moritz but in a new location: the former Hotel Eden, in close proximity to the Leaning Tower and the Chesa Futura.

New St. Moritz worlds of pleasure

The smallest restaurant in St. Moritz is opening its doors this winter in the Chesa Veglia: the Carigiet Fondue Stübli has three tables and space for a total of twelve people. Badrutt’s Palace has also invited two-Michelin-star chef Eric Kragh Vildgaard from the Jordnær Restaurant in Copenhagen as guest chef-in-residence for the first half of the winter season. On 6 December 2023, the Grace La Margna Hotel will begin offering reinterpreted brasserie classics with The Shack. At the Kulm Hotel St. Moritz, Claudia Canessa is teaming up with British designer and artist Luke Edward Hall for the new Peruvian restaurant Amaru. Young chef Tom Booton from The Grill at Dorchester in London takes over at the Sunny Bar, while Mauro Colagreco (3 Michelin stars) moves to the Kulm Country Club. The Gourmet Festival is a yearly must for epicures: from 29 January to 3 February 2024, international star chefs will transform St. Moritz into a culinary hotspot for the thirtieth time. Following its rousing premiere in February 2023, St. Moritz Cocktail Week will once again shake up the local bar scene from Thursday to Sunday, 15-18 February with pop-ups, limited edition creations, and special menus and events.

St. Moritz’s young and wild side

Perched at 1,822 metres above sea level, St. Moritz can boast guaranteed snow in the winter months and spring skiing for winter sports enthusiasts. In addition to the extended winter season, young guests can also count on a finale tailored specially to them: The SunIce Festival returns to Salastrains from the 4th to the 7th of April 2024 with top DJs from the international techno and EDM scene. The Surfover event, in April 2024 at the Alpina hut at 2,550 metres a.s.l., has become a cult event that will once again put the focus on surfing skills, creative disguises, and the sounds of the ‘90s.

103 seconds of winter in St. Moritz: Winter tourism was founded in St. Moritz in 1864. Now, the alpine metropolis is revving up its engines for the 159th winter season. A cinematic immersion into winter.
