Spring Horse Festival To Take Place Again In Ramsau Am Dachstein.
The “Spring Festival of Horses” will take place for the 35th time next weekend (8th/9th June) in Ramsau am Dachstein. Lovingly designed flower figures, pulled by magnificently decorated horses, form the highlight of the rich festival program in the Schladming-Dachstein region. This naturally includes a lot of traditional costumes and traditions: musical walks, traditional costume dance groups and Schuhplattl'n as well as numerous musical performances that make the large festival tent ring out. The new “Dachstein royalty” will also be crowned.
The Spring Horse Festival has a long tradition in Ramsau am Dachstein. The main event is the large parade on Sunday, which is unique in Austria - completely non-motorized. Horse-drawn carriages decorated with flowers, together with traditional costume, music and Schnalzer groups from the region, form the large spring festival parade. Over 100 horses of various breeds parade through what is officially the “most horse-friendly community in Austria”. The net proceeds from the festival go to the Ramsau am Dachstein mountain rescue service and social projects.
Dachstein royalty represents the region
One of the many highlights of this colourful weekend will be the presentation of the new “Dachstein Royals” on Saturday evening in the festival tent:
- Chiara Huber (19 years, Gröbming),
- Anna Gugganig (20, Aigen) and
- Sabine Bliem (27, Wörschach)
have uring the jury vote in the Steiner 1888 Manufactory, showed their best side and, after their ceremonial coronation, they will be allowed to represent the Schladming-Dachstein tourist region at many functions and events for a year.
