Snowmaking Kicks Off At Sugarloaf

With temperatures dipping down into the 20s overnight, and a heavy frost covering surfaces at higher elevations, Sugarloaf took the opportunity to conduct a test of its snowmaking system this morning - lighting up 15 snowguns on the Tote Road trail.

With all systems go, the resort will resume snowmaking this evening, and look to capitalize on the cold overnight periods throughout the week by continuing to blow snow whenever possible.  

"Every fall we like to thoroughly test our snowmaking system, and dust off the cobwebs," said Dan Barker, Sugarloaf's Director of Snow Surfaces. "After making a handful of upgrades to the system over the summer, it's important to make sure that everything is in top working condition before the start of the season."  

Over the summer, the resort installed a new electric motor in the primary pump house to improve efficiency and increase production during key early-season time frames, and the operating system in the snowmaking control room was completely upgraded to better track production and improve network communication.  

Elsewhere on the mountain, hundreds of feet of snowmaking pipe was relocated on the Lower Skidder trail to improve efficiency and early-season coverage.  

The resort aims to open for the season by Thanksgiving Weekend, and lift tickets are just $39 when purchased online in advance.
