Snowboard Alpine World Cup In Pamporovo Confirmed
Following a recent site inspection, FIS Race Director Uwe Beier confirmed Pamporovo, Bulgaria as the host of its inaugural Snowboard Alpine World Cup event in the 2023/24 season. This decision is in line with the Bulgarian Ski Federation's confirmed commitment to host a yearly event, a move that supports the growth of alpine snowboarding in the region.
"Pamporovo has truly become the heart of alpine snowboarding in Bulgaria, and we're delighted to bring the World Cup event here. The Bulgarian Federation's commitment to this sport is commendable and we look forward to alternating events with Bansko in the years to come," said Beier.
Pamporovo, a popular ski resort nestled in the Rhodope Mountains, is not only a premier destination for winter sports but also the home of Bulgarian snowboarding veteran, Radoslav Yankov. With 129 World Cup starts to his name and 15 national championship titles, Yankov has put Pamporovo on the map as a hub for alpine snowboarding.
"The passion for snowboarding in Pamporovo is evident, not least through the achievements of Radoslav Yankov. This community is ready to welcome the World Cup event, and we expect a fantastic turnout from fans," added Beier.
Bulgaria's commitment to alpine snowboarding extends beyond Pamporovo, with notable successes at the Junior World Championships in Bansko last season. Up-and-coming athletes Tervel Zamfirov, Petar Gergyovski, and Alexander Krashniak have shown promising performances, proving the effectiveness of Bulgaria's strong investment in alpine snowboarding programs.
"Pamporovo is ideal in terms of infrastructure, ending in a natural bowl of restaurants in the village. This creates a perfect atmosphere for a thrilling event in front of a large crowd of fans. We are truly excited for this inaugural World Cup event," Beier concluded.
The picturesque resort of Pamporovo, known for its sunny and snow-filled winters, offers an appealing combination of excellent snow conditions and vibrant après-ski culture, making it a promising venue for the Snowboard Alpine World Cup event. As we approach the 2023/24 season, the anticipation for the first World Cup in Pamporovo builds, promising a landmark event in the heart of Bulgarian alpine snowboarding.
