Snow Australia Announces Junior Alpine & World Nordic Teams

The National Alpine Committee is excited to confirm the 2025 World Juniors Team for Alpine in Tarvisio, Italy.

Phoebe Heaydon (Giant Slalom, Slalom) heads into her second World Junior Championships having last week made her World Championships debut in Saalbach, Austria. The 19-year-old scored a 26th in Slalom two years ago in St Anton and has already shown promising form in North America and Europe this season.

Teammates from last year in St Jean d'Aulps, France, Pia Bruce and Abbey Evans are the other athletes returning to the Junior World Championships for a second time.

Chiara Schoerghofer has raced predominantly in Austria and has been selected to race Super G alongside Evans.

Two male athletes have been selected to race the technical disciplines, both competing at World Juniors for the first time.

Harry Hoffman has competed largely in Nor-Am Cup and University events this season and will be joined in Giant Slalom and Slalom by Felix Sachs, who has been earning his best FIS points results in recent months.

"This team is well-represented across many disciplines with experienced athletes and some first-time competitors," said Shawn Fleming, Snow Australia Alpine Director. "I look forward to having the opportunity to cheer on these athletes and hope they all can walk away satisfied of putting forth their best effort.

"Phoebe Heaydon will be competing in Tarvisio fresh off her GS and SL starts at the Alpine World Championships in Saalbach AUT only one week ago. Hopefully the experience she gained over the course of that event will help her ability to perform at this World Junior Championships."

The 44th FIS Alpine Junior World Ski Championships commence in Tarvisio, Italy next week with Abbey Evans and Chiara Schoerghofer starting Australia's campaign next Friday in the Women's Super G.

In addition, Australia will field its largest team in a decade when the FIS Nordic Ski World Championships start later this week in Trondheim, Norway.

Ten athletes have been selected to take part in the event, including three Winter Olympians and four athletes making their World Championships debut. For triple Winter Olympian Phillip Bellingham, this will be his seventh World Championship appearance.

Bellingham said he is looking forward to racing at a venue where the crowd is intensely passionate about cross country skiing.

“The atmosphere at Trondheim should be amazing and I'm looking forward to racing there as part of a team that is really taking big steps up and getting stronger by the day,” said Bellingham. “The young athletes are motivating to be around and they keep me young at heart.

Bentley Walker-Broose, Fedele de Campo and Liam Burton will be competing at the event for the first time along with Rosie Fordham who is full of confidence following her silver medal at the World U23 Championships in Italy earlier this month.

“I’m looking forward to experiencing my world champs debut in the electric atmosphere that will be in Trondheim. I’ve been in good form this season and hoping to carry that through to some quality results at this world championships.

Nine out of ten of the team have been racing regularly on World Cup this season. Phoebe Cridland, Ellen-Soehol Lie and Seve de Campo competed at the 2023 World Championship in Planica, while Tuva Bygrave races at the 2021 World Champs in Oberstdorf.

Snow Australia Cross Country Skiing Program Director Finn Marsland joins the support team in Trondheim, alongside head coach Alexei Sotskov and German wax technicians Fabian Mauz, Toni Escher and Leopold Hensler.

“I'm stoked to be in Trondheim with this young team that has so much enthusiasm and potential,” said Finn Marsland, who competed at the 1997 World Championships at the same venue.

“The Team Sprint is a key targeted event at these championships, in which we aim to make the finals (top 15) for the first time. We also plan to enter women’s and men’s relay teams, which will be the first Australian women's relay team at a World Championships since 2017 and the first men’s team since 2011.”
