Smith Picks Hero Products For Winter 20 - 21

Smith has identified its hero products for fall - winter 20 - 21. Top of the range this coming season are the new SQUAD Mag Goggles, Altus & Vida helmets and Icon ski racing helmet.

SMITH Squad Mag goggle

Expanding its offering of eyewear featuring the easy-to-swap MAG lens system, Smith introduces the new Squad MAG snow goggle. Combining on-mountain style with the ease of Smith’s best-in-class interchangeable technology, the iconic design of the semi-frameless Squad MAG is the first cylindrical goggle in the line featuring the MAG system.

Allowing you to quickly adapt for any condition, the MAG system features six-Strong and weatherproof magnetic contact points and dual patent-pending locking mechanisms to ensure the lens stays securely in place. A simple push lever on either side of the lens releases it quickly and effortlessly to adjust to varying light to get you back on the hill faster.

The Squad MAG exclusively incorporates Smith’s proprietary ChromaPop snow lens technology, uniquely tuned to provide unmatched clarity and detail in any alpine condition. ChromaPop is now available in 13 snow lens tints to amplify detail and enhance natural color, including the introduction of ChromaPop Sun Black Gold Mirror for Winter 20/21. Each Squad MAG goggle ships with two ChromaPop performance lenses to accommodate bright light and low light conditions.

SMITH Altus & Vida Helmets

Smith expands the access to superior Aerocore construction featuring Koroyd in two new, elegant shells designed specifically for long, demanding days. Aimed at an alpine-meets-lifestyle aesthetic, Smith designed two unique shells, the Altus and the women’s-specific Vida.

Both helmets feature ultra-light in-mold construction in a low profile design. By utilizing zonal impact Aerocore construction featuring Koroyd®, the unique crumple-zone cylinders crush uniformly on impact to provide superior energy absorption, design flexibility, and ventilation when compared to materials traditionally used in helmet construction.

All color options of the Altus and Vida are also available with an optional multi-directional impact protection system (MIPS) lining that reduces rotational forces that the brain is exposed to during oblique impacts to the head, a leading cause of concussions.

By utilizing Smith’s adjustable VaporFit fit system for an ideal fit, and a XT2 anti-bacterial performance lining, the Altus and Vida each provide complete comfort all day long. The slimline venting system with a low-profile shutter button allows you to easily adjust airflow even with a gloved hand. The helmets fully integrate with Smith goggles for a seamless fit, performance, and innovation through the AirEvac ventilation system. By pulling warm, fog-causing air out of the goggles and exhausting it through the helmet ports – Altus & Vida ensure ultimate circulation and maximum airflow.

SMITH Icon Race Helmet

Inspired by the FIS World Championships, Smith developed the new Icon helmet to allow racers to stay focused on the finish line knowing they’re backed by maximum protection.

Designed for podium performances, the Icon offers FIS-approved protection in a low-profile, advanced ABS shell construction formulated specifically for high speed impacts while providing extended coverage around the head. Smith further incorporates multiple internal construction materials to meet the demands of racers on the FIS stage, including:

  • Internal Aerocore construction featuring the superior impact-absorbing benefits of Koroyd® throughout to protect under extreme speeds and conditions.
  • Engineered EPP inserts at the front of the helmet for dual density construction that allow for multiple gate impacts.
  • The Icon also features a multi-directional impact protection system (MIPS) lining that allows the helmet to rotate slightly relative to the head during impact, reducing rotational forces that the brain is exposed to during oblique impacts to the head, and is a leading cause of concussions.
  • For slalom, the Icon also has a compatible and removable nylon chin guard (sold separately).

Smith remains the grandaddy of the ski google world, the late Dr Bob Smith having invented fog free goggles.

Here he is making great turns not long after his invention was launched in 1965. Thanks Doc.
