Skistar CEO Mats Arjes Elected As President Of Swedish Olympic Committee
The Swedish Olympic Committee (SOK) announced that Mats Årjes has been appointed as its new President at its General Assembly on 19th April.
Årjes, a Member of the FIS Council since 2010 and President of the Swedish Ski Association since 2008, will replace Hans Vestberg who decided to step down after two years in the role.
Årjes won a close contest to become the new SOK President, beating Vice-President Per Palmström by 23 votes to 19. He has become the seventh President of the Swedish Olympic Committee since its establishment in 1913 and will serve for a three-year mandate.
Following his election, Årjes, who is the CEO of SkiStar AB, the leading ski resort operator in Scandinavia, said: "I am proud and honoured to have been given this assignment and will do everything in my power to develop the Swedish Olympic Committee. Of all of my birthdays, this is by far the most exciting!”
Årjes, who turned 51 on 19th April, also stressed that bringing the 2026 Winter Olympic and Paralympic Games to Sweden was his top priority.
