Skiing No Longer - Dublin Indoor Ski Centre Closes, Blames Insurance Costs
Dublin's ski centre, an revolving carpet indoor ski facility has closed its doors for good. SIN understands the company had sustained losses of €70 000 at the end of 2019, a situation unlikely to have been improved during the pandemic.
In a statment the company said:
It is with a heavy heart that we have made the decision not to reopen the Dublin Ski Centre following the lockdown. It has been well documented that leisure centres have struggled to obtain insurance over the last number of years with major Insurers steering away from this sector. The impact of Covid-19 has exacerbated this further and with the uncertainty that is still out there no Insurer is willing to insure the business. We would like to thank all our customers who have helped to make this adventure so amazing. We would also like to thank all our staff who worked so hard to ensure that each of our visitors left already looking forward to the next time.
The centre was a carpet type facility trading at Stillorgan Business Park, Sandyford, Dublin and was Ireland's only indoor snowsports facility. Dublin Ski Centre Limited was set up on Wednesday the 27th of September 2017. The majority shareholder is a company called Spectrum 10X Ltd, a holding company for Stuart McGoldrick.
SIN awaits the outcome of the creditors meeting.
Dublin ski centre is not connected to the very successful and well run large plastic ski slope at Kilternan, operated by the Ski Club of Ireland
