Skiing Literature Anthology “To Heaven's Heights” By Ingrid Christophersen To Published September

In September Unicorn Publishing Group will release Ingrid Christophersen's To Heaven's Heights, an eclectic collection of ski stories from over 60 world famous authors. The anthology celebrates skiing in its entirety from the Winter Olympics and races to transport and hunting, as well as leisure activities, accidents, avalanches and magic. The book also includes forewords by Lord Moynihan and Sir John Ritbat.

Described by former sports Minister Lord Moynihan as “A book to fill a much-needed gap in the market for ski-lovers everywhere”, To Heaven’s Heights is an eclectic collection of ski stories from world famous authors from Garrison Keillor, by way of Ian Fleming and Bill Bryson. Spanning one thousand years and with contributions from over 60 authors, the anthology celebrates skiing as a means of transport, communication, hunting, exploring, and latterly as an Olympic sport and a leisure activity enjoyed by millions around the globe. With writings of accidents and avalanches, magic and mystery, these stories are for children and grown-ups, ski racers and armchair athletes.

Ingrid has also been much involved in the international arena being one of the best known, respected individuals in the sport. Ingie is highly qualified technically and her qualifications are too numerous to list here but to mention just a few, she was a member of the British Womens’ Alpine Ski Team for 5 years, she gained the top BASI ski qualification, she became an International Trainer at the Austrian State Ski School, managed the British Childrens’ Team and is a FIS Technical Delegate for Alpine, Speed Skiing and Cross Country. As an International Alpine FIS Technical delegate, Ingie is one of a very rarified group who can organise and manage FIS qualified races anywhere in the world. She has received numerous awards for her services to skiing including receiving an MBE in the 2007 Queen’s Birthday Honours.

Ingie, whose father was Norwegian and her mother Australian, speaks no less than six European languages and has a working knowledge of Russian. Needless to say she is extremely well known and much in demand in skiing. She doesn’t simply stop at the end of the winter season in March as there is still training to be organized during the summer on glaciers in Austria or France or even in Canada and sometimes further afield in the likes of Chile and New Zealand. In between times, during the summer months, she helps out with the organisers of the Glyndbourne Opera House.

In the words of Sir John Ritblat, President of GB Snowsport: ‘Ingrid is truly the éminence grise of skiing competition.’ She speaks four languages and has translated, to great acclaim, several books from Norwegian to English.

Proceeds from the book will go to Snow Camp, the UK’s National Snowsports charity, giving young inner-city children the opportunity to experience the mountains and in many cases turn their lives around.
