Ski Safari Launches £125k Development Fund To Support National Youth Charity Snow-Camp
Ski Safari, one of the UK’s leading specialist tailor-made ski holiday tour operators is working in partnership with Snow-Camp, the charity supporting young people from inner-city areas through snow-sports. This partnership will aid Snow-Camp in expanding its work nationally and enabling the charity to support many more young people. At an informal gathering at the Telegraph Ski and Snowboard Show on the 26 October 2017, the director of the charity, Dan Charlish, was presented with a cheque by Richard Rice, CEO and founder of Ski Safari. The presentation was attended by key supporters, associates of the industry and staff members.
Snow-Camp is an innovative youth charity that uses a unique combination of skiing, snowboarding life-skills programmes and vocational training to support inner-city young people. Through the combination of snowsports and youth work training, their programmes enable young people to grow in confidence and self-esteem, develop as individuals and make positive choices for their lives. Snow-Camp programmes also enable young people to reflect on the key issues impacting their day to day lives, and help them develop new skills and gain new qualifications to support their futures – particularly towards careers in the snowsport industry.
Snow-Camp has grown steadily from 2003 and now works with over 800 young people a year across programmes in London, Glasgow, Birmingham, Bristol and Cardiff. They are launching programmes in Manchester this year. . Their vision is to establish Snow-Camp as a national youth charity over the coming years and bring the success of their r approach to benefit many more inner-city young people. They were awarded the Freedom of the City of London in 2013 for services to youth work, and were winners and runners up in 2015 and 2016 in the National Apprenticeship Awards.
Richard Rice started Ski Safari more than 20 years ago and in the past few years has seen his own business expand in an agile market place into an established company. Richard has experience in developing and growing a successful business and has watched Snow-Camp - also based in Brighton - evolve since 2003.
The exciting three-year funding project of £125,000, announced at the Telegraph Ski and Snowboard Show, is part of an overall scheme to help Snow-Camp progress its strategy and infrastructure, and to develop the charity in a sustainable manner. The aim is to enable Snow-Camp to continue its vital work as a long term model.
Snow-Camp director Dan Charlish said: “Once again, we are amazed at the enthusiasm Richard and his team at Ski Safari have shown for Snow-Camp’s work and vision. This funding will have a huge impact in helping secure Snow-Camp’s long term future and overall sustainability. There is much we can learn from Ski Safari as we look to build our charity further and we are looking forward to working more closely together. The funds donated will make a massive difference to our ability to work with inner city young people.”
Speaking before the event, Richard Rice said: “It is amazing what Dan and his team have achieved so far. This money is about helping them do even more! We at Ski Safari have developed a close relationship with the Snow-Camp team and we are keen to support them as the organisation grows, so that they can benefit as many young people as possible over the next few years.”
Ski Safari has been supporting Snow-Camp since 2012 and contributed £50,000 to the charity in January 2016, which allowed Snow-Camp to expand their programme into Bristol.
