Sierra Nevada Passes Snow Control; There Will Be SBX World Cup On March 2 And 3:
The Snowboard Cross World Cup circuit has today passed the snow control carried out by the International Ski Federation (FIS) technicians, which means that, barring weather mishaps, Sierra Nevada will host two SBX World Cups on the weekend of 2 and 3 March.
The FIS technical advisor for the snowboard cross discipline, Alberto Schiavon, today inspected the circuit, measured thicknesses and tested the quality of the snow, after which he considered the track to be suitable for the Sierra Nevada double World Cup.
The circuit, due to the snow conditions at the time of construction, will lower the starting elevation and raise the finishing elevation, for a total length of 671 metres, 100 metres of vertical drop and a maximum gradient of 26 percent.
According to Schiavon, "the organisation has done a great job to define a good circuit; surely the weather is going to help us in the next few days with snow and cold, but we have a good base to do the World Cup. We got the green light, so congratulations.
It's a bit early to know what kind of riders this circuit will favour," added Alberto Schiavon, "we have to see how it will be definitively because there is still work to be done. It seems clear that the riders who go well will have a good advantage, but everything will depend on what happens in the next few days, if it's cold, if it's hot; the quality of the track will also be decisive".
