Sierra Nevada Activates Preparations For The Double SBX World Cup, March 1-3
From 1 to 3 March 2024, Sierra Nevada will host two rounds of the FIS Snowboard Cross (SBX) World Cup, following the trend of recent seasons in which the Granadan winter resort has become a regular venue on the world circuit of one of the most spectacular snowboarding disciplines.
The double SBX World Cup, sponsored by the Consejería de Turismo, Cultura y Deporte de la Junta de Andalucía with the co-financing of the European Union, will be held on the same Loma de Dílar circuit where last season two other rounds of the FIS snowboard cross world circuit were held.
The course will consist of six banked turns, three jumps and seven dubbies. The final part of the course with the finish area will be very close to the lower station of the Monachil chairlift, where the grandstands and the entertainment area will be located.
Along the route, the points where the 13 cameras that will broadcast the television signal to the whole world have also been set up. Other organisational aspects, accommodation, volunteers, accreditations, press and music programming are being defined by the organising committee. The competition in Sierra Nevada, organised by Cetursa Sierra Nevada and the Andalusian and Spanish winter sports federations, will be the seventh event on this season's SBX World Cup calendar, and after the cups on 2 and 3 March in the mountains of Granada, there will be three more events to decide which riders will win the discipline's crystal globe.
The Sierra Nevada World Cup will bring together the world's best snowboard cross riders, with the powerful Spanish team among the favourites. Donostia-based snowboarder Lucas Egibar, who last season finished first and second in the two Sierra Nevada Cups, is aiming to extend his love affair with the Granadan winter resort. Álvaro Romero, Bernat Rivera and Antoni Toledo complete the national Movistar SBX Team.
The world stars of this discipline, Alessandro Hämmerle, Martin Noerl, Elliot Grondin, Charlotte Banks, Micaela Moioli and Lindsey Jacobellis, will be present at the Sierra Nevada event.
