Seven Brothers Express Quad Opens At Loon Mountain
The Seven Brothers Express Quad, a high-speed four passenger chairlift has opened at Loon Mountain Resort.
Doubling Speed
The Seven Brothers Express Quad is a Doppelmayr high-speed detachable lift which can transport skiers and riders at speeds that double the previous triple chairlift, travelling up to 1,000 feet per minute. "Adding a high-speed lift in this base area will be transformative—a major improvement for our guests.” said Brian Norton, Loon’s president and general manager. The overall uphill capacity has increased and follows the same lift line profile.
New Look
First installed in 1995 at the Governor Adams Lodge base area, this four-place chairlift underwent a major overhaul and has been relocated to the resort’s Octagon Lodge base area. New features of the lift include a loading conveyor, redesigned top and bottom terminals, operator houses, drive system and electronics.
Shaping The Future
Opening the Seven Brothers Express Quad is another major milestone of Flight Path: 2030, Loon’s ten-year investment plan focused on modernizations across the resort. “This is our second lift installation in as many years. And next winter, we’re going to make it three in a row.” said Norton. Recently, Loon announced expansion plans at the South Peak area of the resort. Those plans include the addition of over 30 acres of terrain and a new quad chairlift which is scheduled to open during the 2023/24 winter season.
After the installation and launch of the Kancamagus 8, the Kancamagus Express Quad spent the winter getting a complete remodel in preparation for the short journey east to replace Loon’s only fixed-grip triple chairlift—becoming the Seven Brothers Express Quad.
In its new location, the Seven Brothers Express Quad will be a completely modernized lift with a new look, drive system and electronics. The rope speed will more than double compared to the triple chairlift—going from 450 feet to 1,000 feet per minute—and cut the ride time to three and a half minutes. The overall uphill capacity will increase and will follow the same lift line profile.
" We are constantly evaluating the operations of the resort with Flight Path: 2030 in the forefront of our minds. Increasing the speed and capacity at Seven Brothers will elevate the ski experience for guests coming out of the Octagon Lodge Base Area—especially on days with high winds." Brian Norton, President & General Manager
The Seven Brothers Triple was a CTEC lift that came to Loon in 1985 and is being replaced with a Doppelmayr high speed detachable quad chairlift. This lift, the Kanc Quad was originally installed in 1995 and took its last turn around the bullwheel on March 28, 2021.
