As the Austrian women’s downhill coach, Hubmann was instrumental in Renate Götschl’s first World Championship title 1997 and her winning the downhill globe. In 2001, Hubmann changed to the men’s team and had success with athletes like Stephan Eberharter, Hermann Maier and Hans Knauß.
After successful years in the Austrian Ski Federation, he was the downhill coach in the Croatian Ski Federation and did his part to enable Ivica Kostelic’s overall World Cup win. Hubmann also coached in Bulgaria, Switzerland, Hungary and Georgia.
From 1996 to 1997, Walter Hubmann was in charge of the Alpine European Cup as FIS European Cup Coordinator.
SIN would like to express its sincerest condolences to the family, friends and loved ones of Walter Hubmann, as well and to the Austrian Ski Association.
