Saas-Fee & Saastal: Overnight Stays Exceed Pre-Pandemic Levels

Compared to the previous year, the holiday region of Saas-Fee/Saas Valley registered an increase in overnight stays of 9.26 percent. This exceeds the number of overnight stays in the 2018/19 financial year, the last financial year before the pandemic, by 1.7 percent.

After two difficult winters due to corona, the 2021/22 winter could be considered a complete success. In summer, the number of overnight stays was lower than in the last two record summers, but the result was an overall better summer result than before the pandemic (+5% compared to summer 2018/19). With 1,244,738 overnight stays, the financial year ended with an increase of 9.26% compared to 2020/21 and an increase of 1.7% compared to the pre-pandemic year 2018/19.

"The destination Saas-Fee/Saastal has once again asserted itself as a TOP region for winter sports. Despite less actively rented guest beds due to the structural change taking place in the hotel industry, a very pleasing result was achieved," explains Konstantin Bumann, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Saastal Tourismus AG

Year-round business in the high alpine holiday region

:In order to strengthen the year-round business, the continuous further development of the summer and autumn offer for the destination is central in addition to the ongoing improvement in the quality and variety of the winter offer. Highlights in product development in summer 2022 are the launch of the new flow trail and the children's playground on Kreuzboden, the modernization of the entrance area to the Allalin ice grotto and the first-ever Saas Festival, which was organized by Saastal Tourismus AG," summarizes Matthias Supersaxo, CEO of the Saastal Tourism Ltd.

Record sales via the destination web shop

With CHF 4.7 million, record sales were once again achieved via the destination web shop. "This pleasing value is due to the targeted marketing performance activities and the breadth and quality of the bookable destination products," summarizes Tourism Director Matthias Supersaxo.
