Ramsau Am Dachstein: International Land Art Artists Design The Summit Trail On The Rittisberg

Well-known land art artists from Germany, Denmark and the Netherlands transform the summit hike into a sustainable sculpture trail

The circular route on the summit of the Rittisberg becomes an international art project. On the initiative of the Ursprung association, four artists from Germany, Denmark and the Netherlands were commissioned with the redesign. The focus of the new land art project is sustainability: Only natural materials are used for the art installations, which are returned to nature after a few years.

The well-known land art artists Frank Nordiek and Cornelia Konrads (both from Germany) as well as Karin van der Molen (Netherlands) and Jette Mellgren (Denmark) were won over for the art project on the Rittisberg. Her works can already be seen all over the world. They spend the next two weeks in Ramsau am Dachstein. Inspired by the wonderful nature of the Dachstein, they will create their works on the Rittisberg.

From 24.07. the finished installations by Frank Nordiek (huge larch funnel), Karin von der Molen (exploding stone wall) and Cornelia Konrads (gilded shingle roofs) can already be admired. Jette Mellgren works with willows, she starts her art installation on Monday (July 24th). Rittisberg guests can follow the process of creation live on site. The natural materials required come entirely from the immediate vicinity of the Schladming-Dachstein region.

The project is intended to play a pioneering role in sustainable design

“This project is intended to play a pioneering role in the sustainable design of mountain peaks that are open to tourism. We want to show how a bridge can be built between the protection of natural areas and the tourist experience without blocking valuable open spaces," says Manfred Engelhardt, operator of the Rittisbahn and chairman of the Ursprung association.

Mathias Schattleitner, Managing Director of the Schladming-Dachstein Tourism Association, is also delighted with the special art project: "The interplay of art, nature and tourism is creating a wonderful project on the Rittisberg that will be very well received by our guests."
