PyeongChang 2018 Ticket Design Unveiled
The design of the Olympic Winter Games PyeongChang 2018 tickets was unveiled today, just one day before the Olympic Flame arrives in the Republic of Korea and one day before the nation celebrates the 100 days-to-go milestone.
With the excitement building across the country, the ticket design launch is another way that the organizing committee is engaging the nation and encouraging everyone to start planning for their own Games experience and a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to see the world’s best winter sport athletes in PyeongChang.
A total of 29 designs have been released to cover 26 sporting competitions, the opening and closing ceremonies, and one general design ticket, which will feature across all sports. The sports-specific tickets feature the pictogram for that competition, while the much sought-after ceremony tickets are a design of snowflake patterns that has been inspired by Hangeul, the Korean alphabet that is also used on the Olympic medal design.
Like many Olympic Games before, the tickets are expected to become an important piece of memorabilia for everyone who comes to PyeongChang from February 9-25 and shares in the passion and excitement of the Games.
President of the PyeongChang 2018 Organizing Committee, LEE Hee-beom said, “As we look forward to welcoming the Olympic Flame to Korea tomorrow to begin its journey across the country, the launch of the Olympic Winter Games ticket design today is another important milestone for us and another chance to encourage everyone to buy their tickets and be a part of this wonderful event.
“The Games is now becoming a reality and you can be the proud owner of a ticket to one of the best sporting events in the world. The designs embody our message of peace and harmony for the Games and we want everyone to share this experience with us.”
For the first time at an Olympic Games, people will be able to use a mobile ticket option - another addition to a Games that is focused on being the most connected and advanced in information and communications technology (ICT). Spectators can also choose to print at home or receive the standard paper copies.
Paper tickets will be delivered to consumers from November 1st for those who have purchased online.
To prevent counterfeit issues, all tickets will be encrypted with a QR code and hologram as well as the full name of the original purchaser. UV printing will be used for each ticket and each one will be assigned to the ticket purchaser.
For those still to buy their Games tickets, service centres in Seoul City Hall, Gangwon Provincial Office and Gangneung City Hall will open on November 1st for you to purchase. Tickets will also be available for purchase at the two largest airports in Korea, Incheon International Airport and Gimpo International Airport from November 3rd. From November 6th, you will also be able to purchase tickets from 19 high-speed railway stations across the country (see Appendix I). Due to limited capacity, spectators should plan their time accordingly.
Ticket holders for all events will not only enjoy their designated session of word class sport, but they will also get to enjoy the wider Olympic experience in PyeongChang on the date of their ticket session. Highlights include:
- Access to a host of cultural events at the PyeongChang Olympic Plaza and Gangneung Olympic Park.
- Discount on KTX (high-speed railway) tickets and advance reservations.
- Highway toll exemption and free parking at designated parking areas at Olympic hubs.
- Free shuttle bus service between venues and Olympic hubs within PyeongChang.
- Discount on Northface products – the official sports apparel supplier for PyeongChang 2018
- Ticket discount eligibility across a range of seating categories.
