Purgatory Resort Extends 2022-23 Ski Season
Mountain officials announced today that Purgatory will extend the ski season weekends through April, and possibly into May.
This season Purgatory received 376 inches – over 31 feet – of snow, a feat accomplished only three other times since the Durango-area ski resort opened in 1965. While Purgatory does not release skier visit data, the resort is experiencing double-digit growth over last year.
"We have so much snow on the ground and conditions are amazing, " said Dave Rathbun, Purgatory’s General Manager. "This region hasn't seen this much snow in over 30 years, and we’re excited to keep the season going. Skiing and riding in May for the second time in five years is a real possibility."
Purgatory will be open weekends only, April 22-23 and April 29-30 for Saturday and Sunday operations. Resort officials plan to announce lift and trail offerings next week and the mountain will be open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The resort’s mid-mountain base depth is currently 66 inches.
Purgatory will reopen with modified operations that include demo rentals, retail, and food and beverage selections will be determined. Live music will be offered on the Beach from 1 - 3 pm on Saturday, April 29. There will be no beginner terrain or ski school lessons available. Discounted lift tickets will be available starting at $29 for adults (13+). 2022-23 Weekday passholders and Hesperus passholders are invited to use their pass for the remaining weekends starting this weekend, April 22-23. Kids 12 and younger receive a free Power Kids season pass valid everyday for the remainder of this season and the 2023-24 season for skiing and biking.
